To our valued customers,
We recently became aware that unauthorized parties have sent fraudulent emails appearing to come from our Accounts Receivable department. These emails may request that payments be sent to a new bank account or may contain altered banking instructions.
Please note that FETCO has not changed its banking information. If you receive any communication requesting a change in payment instructions, do not act on it until you have verified the request directly with your FETCO representative or our Accounts Receivable team using previously established contact information.
We have seen a rise recently in spam and want you to know that FETCO is dedicated to keeping information secure and follows a number of best practices related to cyber or data security.
We encourage everyone to practice good cyber hygiene and to be on the lookout for scams or phishing attempts by unknown parties. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) lays out an excellent description of how phishing attacks take place. You can read the FBI’s description and guidance here [fbi.gov]. The FBI has best practices to prevent these scams and protect your personal and work-related accounts:
Do not click on an unsolicited email asking you to update your account information, verify account information, or reset your password.
Carefully examine the email address, URL, and the spelling used in any correspondence to ensure that this information is accurate.
NEVER open an email attachment from someone you do not know. If you think you need to read it, ask your IT department to assist before proceeding.
If a known contact sends you an email with an attachment that asks you for your login credentials, pause and consider reaching out to the sender via a known alternative method (like a direct phone call to a previously-used number) or consider contacting your IT provider to confirm before proceeding.
For all requested changes to key account information, such as financial account or change of address, confirm the change via a known contact using a previously-used communication method. Do not use the contact information provided in the email with the change request.
Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Food Equipment Technologies Company
